LORRIE SPRECHER

Lorrie is a writer, musician, and activist.  She feels like she has been these things since she was born.  In elementary school, she refused to follow the dress code because it was sexist and refused to say the pledge of allegiance because she felt the words "with liberty and justice for all" were misleading.

Lorrie has a Ph.D. in English and American literature from the University of Maryland.  She was an avid member of ACT UP/DC and has been arrested six times for acts of nonviolent civil disobedience.

Lorrie's band Sugar Rat has recorded some of the original songs that appear in her latest novel Pissing in a River.  These are available on iTunes.  Her punk song "It's a Heteronormative World, No!" appears on a compilation put out by Riot Grrrl Berlin.

Lorrie Is currently doing research for a novel that will take place in the West Bank of Palestine.  She is also editing a completed novel about a rape and its aftermath.  She resides in Syracuse, New York with her lovely dog, Kurt.
